General of the lion guard by JohnPowell General of the lion guard by JohnPowell
Painted directly into Photoshop. Somewhere around 40 hrs worked on randomly over the past week or two.

I've been doing a lot of studying lately trying to work out all the odds and ends I dislike about my work. I've always thought my work lacked clarity so I'm trying to improve upon that.

Hope you enjoy it.

Umm if this is helpful at all you placed emphasis on your warrior's face by the contrast between how light his skin is compared to his armor...your design work and layout are excellent...and you have a fantastic unique and fresh style...good job

Big guy is awesome!
The knight, however, could've been a little more "kool" (for lack of better word), especially if he is going to challenge. or pass the larger figure.

Still pretty great though!

Fantastic piece. Very epic and well composed. Also I'm totally digging the Shadow of Collosus colour pallette.

looks amazing man.. live always..

how did ya paint that backgrouns ? do you use some special brushes in Photoshop ?

Ya know, it was a whole lot of painting with just normal flat round brushes and such. I screw around occasionally with brush textures and stuff, but if you just work with the flow and opacity you can get some really nice things.

the details in both the characters armor, i think are rendered well. the background reminds me of Chinese landscape paintings

Yeah I was looking at some Chinese scrolls when I worked this out, to get a better grasp of handling depth and the scope of a large land area.
